The Purpose of The Mercury Foundation
To advance the education of the public, in particular but not exclusively, in the history of the Second World War and the Battle of Britain and the Royal Air Force, by the establishment and maintenance of a museum and associated collections, and such other means as the trustees shall in their discretion determine.
Past & present
The charitable work of The Mercury Foundation has taken place for nearly a decade and in 2018 it was granted charitable status to advance the education of the public, in particular but not exclusively in the Second World War, the Battle of Britain and the Royal Air Force and related areas.
The Mercury Foundation has supported many organisations including the RAF Benevolent Fund (most recently with their efforts to combat social isolation and loneliness amongst RAF family members during the pandemic—read more), The RAF Club, the Gurkha Welfare Trust, The Royal British Legion, Thin Blue Paw (caring for retired police dogs), the National Foundation for Retired Service Animals (NFRSA), Pawsome Pensions, ‘Ski Habilitation’ supporting wounded veterans, AKUT Search and Rescue Association (Turkey earthquake relief), Sir Gareth Edwards Cancer Charity, and The East Grinstead Hospital McIndoe Centre .
In 2018 The Mercury Foundation held Time Flies, a gala performance to raise public awareness of the Royal Air Force centenary and educate the public in the role of the Royal Air Force in the Second World War. The charities supported were The Battle Of Britain Memorial Trust, The RAF100 Appeal, Bentley Priory Museum, RAF Music Charitable Trust and Polish Airmen’s Association.

It has also supported a project to refurbish an important Animal Cemetery, raising awareness of the contribution made by animals who served in the two world wars, many of whom won the Dickin Medal and other orders of merit, awarded by the PDSA.
